Furniture assembly

$75

Flat-pack furniture arrives as a stack of boxes, a bag of fittings and a booklet that assumes you have a free afternoon and a clear floor. We take that off your hands. You tell us what you bought and where it goes, and we arrive with the drivers, hex keys and rubber mallet the instructions quietly expect you to own. We lay out the parts, follow the sequence and tighten every cam lock and bolt so the piece does not wobble or creak. Beds, desks, dressers and bookcases are the usual requests, and we can anchor tall pieces to the wall if you want that. Before we go, we flatten the boxes and take away the packaging so your room is ready to use.

  • We bring every tool the instructions assume you have
  • Every joint checked tight, no wobble or creak
  • Boxes flattened and packaging taken away

Shelf installation

$45

A shelf is only as good as what it is fixed to, and Manhattan walls vary from plaster and lath to drywall on metal studs to solid brick. We find out what is behind your wall before we drill. Where there are studs, we locate them and screw straight into wood. Where there are not, we choose anchors rated for the weight you plan to put up, whether that is paperbacks or a row of cast-iron pans. You show us the height and position you want, we mark it up, check it is level and mount the brackets or the floating shelf hardware. Then we set the shelf, load it and confirm it stays put. We clean up the dust and leave you with a shelf you can trust.

  • Studs located or the right anchors for your wall type
  • Marked, leveled and checked before we drill
  • Drill dust cleaned up before we leave

Door adjustment

$55

Doors in older Manhattan buildings settle over time. Hinges loosen, frames shift a little and suddenly a door sticks at the top, rubs on the floor or swings shut without latching. Most of this is fixable without replacing anything. We look at how the door hangs, tighten or reseat the hinge screws, add a shim where the door has dropped and move or file the strike plate so the latch catches cleanly. If the door is genuinely binding, we plane the edge a touch rather than forcing it. This works for bedroom, bathroom and closet doors, bifolds that jump their track and cabinet doors that hang unevenly. You get a door that opens, closes and stays closed the way it should.

  • Sticking, sagging and rubbing fixed at the hinges
  • Latches and strike plates lined up so doors stay shut
  • Closet, bifold and cabinet doors too

Wall patching

$75

Nail holes from the last tenant, a dent where a chair backed into the wall, or a small hole left when a bracket came out: these are the marks that make an apartment look tired and can cost you at move-out. We patch them properly. Small holes get filled, dents get built up in thin coats, and larger drywall damage gets a backing piece or mesh so the repair holds. We let the compound dry, sand it flush and feather the edges so there is no bump under paint. If you have the matching paint, we can put a coat on the patch. If not, we leave it primed and smooth, ready for you or your painter. We cover the floor and clean the dust before we leave.

  • Holes, dents and small drywall damage filled properly
  • Sanded flush and feathered so nothing shows under paint
  • Floors covered and dust cleaned up

Home repair visit

$95

Most apartments have a list: a towel bar that came loose, a curtain rod to hang, a drawer that jams, a cabinet hinge that needs tightening, a mirror waiting on the floor. None of them justify a separate call, so they wait. A home repair visit is for that list. You send us the jobs, ideally with a photo or two, and we tell you what we will need and how long it should take. We arrive with the tools and hardware to work through the list in one go, starting with whatever matters most to you. If something on the list turns out to need a specialist, we say so rather than improvising. You end the visit with the small annoyances handled.

  • Send your whole list, we work through it in one trip
  • We tell you up front what we need and how long it takes
  • Honest about anything that needs a specialist
